Sting

A swarm of clouds brewed over the calming sea as we rushed towards the sand, unaware of the sun's plague. 'Sanctuary-at last' we had thought. Storming through the aisles of the resort, we hastily packed away the shambles of what was to be our luggage-eagerly anticipating our embrace with the beach.

The waves continued to call out to us, "Come hither". The sound of the sea beckoned.

And so we waded, all four of us, as we sought solely the ecstasy of the ocean. The clouds continued to rumble forwards-"Follow us" they had hissed. The spray of the sea seemed to fuse together with the rhythm of our blood, pulsing as we pulsed.

Chest-deep in the salty water, a messenger had bravely interrupted our passage forward. A lowly minnow, sent from the depths of the ocean had approached. "Do not proceed any further!" he had warned, as he puffed his chest to the sky.

The clouds glared down, disapproving.

So we had pushed him away, as the urge of the waves had become overpowering. The minnow could be heard in the distance, his shrill voice desperately calling. Though we moved onwards-the temptation growing stronger.

And so the miles of the sea passed away, yet the feeling of achieving our goal had diminished- the darkening atmosphere licking at our heels, as the consequences of our journey had appeared to us.

The ominous hum of the tyrannous jellyfish had approached. Balls of lightning could be seen shooting off its mighty back. "You had not listened to the warning," the monster had wrapped its colossal tentacles around us as we thrashed about, helplessly giving up our limbs.

The minnow was seen as a shadow in the distance as the clouds laughed uproariously, and the shock of a thousand bolts pierced through our skin.

If you hadn't figured out by now, this story was about my jellyfish sting in Mui Ne a few weeks ago. Except, it wasn't this...dramatic. It did hurt a lot, though.

  1. Im coming back from muine now... Maybe this ir why I oever liked this place. :)
liked the imagery, and vocab... It all made everything very interesthng and almost reminded me of greel mythology with all those messengers. Really awesome. The ending could be a bit stronger though, imho...
